Chicago White Sox Chicago
Chicago Sports Teams – MLB – Chicago White Sox
Chicago is one of only four metropolitan areas in America that has two Major League Baseball teams. The other three are Los Angeles, New York and the San Francisco Bay Area.
Formed in 1900, the Chicago White Sox have won seven American League Pennants and three World Series in their history. They play at U.S. Cellular Field (originally New Comiskey Park). The Sox last won the World Series in 2005. They were originally named the Chicago White Stockings but shortened their name to Sox because that’s what the newspapers of the day called them in their headlines.
Baseball Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis canceled the 1919 World Series because of several members of the White Sox being accused of conspiring with gamblers to lose games on purpose. The players included one of the Sox’s star players, Shoeless Joe Jackson (currently of “Field of Dreams” movie fame) and the players were banned from Major League Baseball for life.
