 The Chicago Blackhawks is the professional ice hockey team of the National Hockey League that plays in Chicago at the United Center.  They were formed in 1926 during the NHL’s first expansion into the U.S. and have won 4 Stanley Cups, the ice hockey equivalent of the World Series.  Their last victory was in the 2009-10 season. 

 Fred McLaughlin, a commander with the 333^rd Machine Gun Battalion of the 86^th Infantry Division during WWI bought the original franchise.  His division was nicknamed the Blackhawk Division, after chief Black Hawk, a prominent Native American of the Sauk nation.  He named the hockey team in honor of the military unit, as a number of sports teams of the era were named after Native American icons.

They won their first Stanley Cup in 1934 and their second in 1938.  Years of lackluster play, with one more Stanley Cut in 1961 and through rebuilding years returned the Stanley Cup to Chicago with their win in the 2009-10 season.
